Update on LOHUI recent project

Long time since the last update
I got to finish these three projects before i take a break till March.
1. Ken's curbow
Ken bought this curbow from ebay - but it came in a mess
No pots, no guts, silly glued fret, and a hanging loose strap lock holder...


Curbow is a piece of artwork truely

Steinberger, curbow, phil kubicki, dingwall, kensmith.. they are all nobel prize winning inventor in the bass history! respect.

2. Wai's sadowsky metro
New friend Mr.Wai came all the way from Tuenmun
In fact Lo hui has spent most of this childhood in YuenLong where is just 15 mins away from TuenMun before he move to the HK side.
Anyway, Wai purchased the VTC control from sadowsky directly and LOHUI will do the installation as well as setup the bass for him

3. Eunice's big jazz mod project
This active female bassist got her 10 yrs old Japan jazz bass through a trade. A bass with some nice mod such as sadowsky pup. However, she want to give the bass some real personal touch of her own - a new neck transplant.
LOHUI will install the aftermarket maple neck with nice block inlay for her..- big work
the neck was longer than the original becoz of the extra fret, so we have to cut it short and leaving a overhang of the last fret. Also, the headstock is too short for the tranditional tuners, so we have to custom reshape the tuner mounting plate to fit it in...

The right stacked pot for OBP-1

To install a obp-1 into a fender jazz without any routing on body is feasible, all you need is a stacked 25k pot for the boost only ( no center detent) preamp, after some search i find the emg dual vol pot which fit.

A kind of video documentary

After a several test posts of snapshot of HK bassist on youtube, i got some very positive feedback.
I enjoy to do more of these to document the ' people of our time' (long live youtube - please).

Bro Ning just bought this very exotic Mimmieweather custom 6 strings for a check up. The bass got a killer top wood, however, very obviously the nut was slotted too deep.

The pictorial record of the steps (partial)

1. The look of the bass

2. Back to the source of problem - nut

3. The nut was not well seated

4. Old way, cut through the lacquer and try to remove the nut

5. Nut removed

6. Two option for Mr.Ning, make a brand new nut or ....

Follow the topic of this post, this is a quick fix, and since the original nut is of common sythe-plastic. We decided to go for a easy way.

7. cut out very thin plastic sheet to glue onto the bottom of the old nut

8. glued, now need to be shaped

Meow Vintage Fender preview

Finally i got some update picture about Mavin (aka meow G nam)'s vintage J- his brand new acquisition.

First customer in my new place

My Old friend Mr. Wah brought his pink modulus to me for pickup up change. He got a dual coil Delano from internet.

To celebrate the 1st customer of my new place. He did me a killer slap chop!!

Most of my life I've just simply had to do a lot with little and I couldn't afford to go out and buy a bunch of vintage or boutique amps. So, the gear I use today has been a real blessing to me as well as to a lot of other guitar players who have found themselves in the same situation... and believe me if I thought for a second that my tone was being compromised by the gear that I'm using I would stop using it immediately. So that being said here is what I use:

Lo Hui 3band Bass preamp - The Low HUI

After the first prototype, the Low HUI 3band bass pre is coming into a production stage, what you can see in the picture is the downsized circuit board, which should be able to fit in a standard jazz route.

soon i will post more spec of it. Keep your eye open!!

A casual routine click on Talkbass bring me the purchase of a used Alleva Coppolo bass, this bass is very hot among the foreign market.
Jimmy Coppolo the vintage man had successfully created an update to the classic fender jazz and Pee sound which has hard printed in most of the bass legend mind. This bass is so welcome by the working musician whose celebrity user included - Bob Cranshaw(Sunny Rollins), Nate Watts, Paul Tuner (Jamiroquai, Annie Lennox), all of those who try to find something that sound close to their priceless vintage J but probably want a extra Low B string for the Gig.

Well I am excited, and i know our blevel bros are excited as well.
